What is the role of the Class Leader?
The Challenge Leader duties include registering the school in the contest to the Challenge and entering the accumulated Energy Cubes on Planet Cube. The Challenge Leader must also communicate the contest Challenge rules to other teachers, students and parents. They should encourage everyone to engage in physical activity throughout the Challenge. If they like, they can also initiate sporting activities at their school to increase the number of Energy Cubes collected.
What counts as an Energy Cube activity?
The Class Leader is responsible for totalling the Energy Cubes accumulated by students and recorded in their logbooks. They transmit the result to the school Challenge Leader on a weekly basis. The Class Leader can be the teacher, a parent or a student.
Who can accumulate Energy Cubes?
Any group or individual activity that requires physical exertion or raises the heart rate counts toward the accumulation of energy cubes. Examples include soccer, basketball, mini-basketball, jump rope, skateboarding, biking, swimming, diving, relay racing, hiking, skating, playing ball, gymnastics, Frisbee, badminton, flag football, hockey, track and field, tchouk-ball, golf, judo, skiing, curling, horseback riding and active video games such as Kinect and Wii Fit games.
Group and individual activities requiring little physical exertion are not counted toward the accumulation of energy cubes. These include passive video games, card games, board games, pool, fishing, driving a quad and minigolf.
Where are Student logbooks available?
- Students and their immediate family (parents, grandparents, brothers and sisters)
- School staff and their immediate family (spouses and children)
For the energy cubes accumulated by the family to be counted, the activity must be done with the participating child.
Trainers, sports team members, extended family members (uncles, aunts, godfathers, godmothers, etc.), pets (!) and others cannot accumulate energy cubes. They are, however, welcome to move to encourage students in their challenge.
Where are the other compiling tools available? (School and Class Leader’s tally sheet, calendar, etc)?
For students without a hard copy of the logbook, a version is available in the Tool Box section of our website. Schools and parents can download the logbook and print it out.
How result are compiled?
The Energy Cubes Challenge provides compiling tools for schools, including a printable Student logbook, the Class Leader's calendar and the School Leader's tally sheet. These tools are optionals but strongly recommended, and each school can modify them as needed. These tools can be downloaded from the Toolbox section (Ajout du lien PDF téléchargeable?) The Class Leader's calendar must be printed and distributed to each class. The Energy Cubes Challenge School Leader must fill out the School Leader’s tally sheet as well.

How to calculate the average number of Energy Cubes per students?
Compilation is done using the student logbooks downloadable from the Toolbox section. Students must enter their sessions of physical activity in the logbook on their own and have it approved by a parent. An adult’s signature is essential for the child’s exercise session(s) to be admissible for the accumulation of Energy Cubes.
The logbook is used for activities performed at home. At school, such as during gym class or recess, teachers recordEnergy Cubes using either their own method or the tools provided. Note that an Energy Cubes cannot be recorded more than once.
How are the winning schools chosen?
Calculating the average number of Energy Cubes per student makes it possible to compare results between participating schools—which regularly compile their results online using the same basis—regardless of the number of students at the school.
Average cubes per student:
Total number of cubes accumulated by your school ÷ Total number of students in your school
Based on the average number of energy cubes accumulated by its students, schools will be entered into the draw 1, 2 or 3 times.
