The mission of the Grand défi Pierre Lavoie
The mission of the Grand défi Pierre Lavoie is to encourage Quebecers to adopt healthy lifestyle habits. To achieve this goal, the Grand défi works to mobilize communities to encourage seniors to choose a healthy lifestyle on a regular basis.
Get moving, for fun!
The Energy Cubes Challenge meets this objective by motivating seniors and their families to get moving for fun!
By taking part in the Energy Cubes Challenge, you’re mobilizing change. You’re helping and motivating seniors to get moving for the fun of it!
Ideas for actionEach week, the person in charge of the community adds up the Energy Cubes collected by his or her community. To do this, he or she registers the Cubes accumulated by participants individually (in their place of residence) and as a group (during activities organized by the community) on the Planet Cube site. La The deadline for registering Cubes on Planet Cube is May 26th, 2025.
Planet Cube VS Calcul-o-Cube VS Community Leader Sheet
Using our Calcul-o-Cube, you can keep track of the number of Energy Cubes you’ve accumulated directly online. In short, it’s a dynamic digital spreadsheet. Here’s how to use it:
The person in charge of the Energy Cubes Challenge must register his or her community for the Challenge and enter the number of Energy Cubes accumulated during the Challenge directly on the Planet Cube website. They must also inform participants about how the Energy Cubes Challenge works. The person in charge encourages physical activity throughout the Challenge. It's also a good idea to initiate sports activities in the community to increase the number of Energy Cubes collected.
Senior Center participants and their families (siblings, children and grandchildren, etc.)
To qualify for the Energy Cubes accumulated by the family, the activity must be performed in the participant's company. Each immediate family member earns 1 Energy Cube for every 15 minutes of physical activity performed with the participant.
Any group or solo activity that requires a physical expenditure of energy or increases the heart rate is eligible for the accumulation of Energy Cubes. Here are a few examples: walking, Zumba, line dancing, yoga, etc.
Visit our toolbox section.
The calculation of the average number of Cubes per participant allows a fair comparison of the results of the registered communities, regardless of the number of participants or senior centers.
Calculation of the average number of Cubes per participant
Total number of Cubes accumulated by your environment ÷ total number of participants in your community.

Winning communities are chosen by a random draw based on the average number of Energy Cubes accumulated. The environment gets 1, 2 or 3 chances. The draw is automatically made from among all communities that have accumulated their total number of Energy Cubes on the planetecube.com platform by May 26th, 2025.
As soon as participants get moving, they have a chance to win the prize. The aim is to promote healthy physical activity and have FUN doing it!
